New Privacy Settings + GPS Location Leveling

When we first launched Pegshot (way way way back in 2009!), a privacy feature was introduced that allowed you publish a specific shot (video or photo) online without having it viewed by the general public. This was especially useful for Pegshot users as we're helping you geo-tag your shots with location data. While many of us see the contextual benefits of location data, we don't always want every shot public. Unfortunately this feature was removed in later versions of Pegshot. That was until today. The latest version of Pegshot (v2.5) now includes a privacy feature. If you wish to post a private shot, simply turn this feature "On" within the upload screen (example below).

Ok so why did you remove this feature in the first place?
Good question! Thanks for asking. We removed the privacy option in preference of a feature called "Location Leveling". Location leveling allows you to control the level of accuracy for the location of each pegged shot. For instance, in the example below you'll find two different ways of pegging a shot:

1. Exact Location "ON" - Your shot is accurately pegged (zoomed in) to a specific location (latitude / longitude). In addition, you can tag this video or photo to local places or events in the area  (i.e. John's Pancake House, Jen's Birthday Party, etc.).

2. Exact Location "OFF" - Your shot still includes location information, however it's now pegged a few levels up (zoomed out) to the city/state instead of an exact location.

With Pegshot v2.5, you get the best of both worlds; privacy features and location leveling. Check it out here in the app store: http://itun.es/iFT9zP

Zoom - A Good Word for Pegshot

The word "Zoom" makes our team smile and-since the newest iPhone software includes a camera zoom (see example below) - we thought we'd reach out with a high five for all Pegshot users. Psyched!!

We also thought that it was time to let you all know that the newest version (code-name Bedrock) of our iPhone app (available now!) is zooming in a new way: much faster uploads! The deal is this: we're into quality around here. And, since releasing our apps, we've been pretty stubborn in regards to the minimum amount of photo/video quality that we were willing to accept for our users. Our goal, after all, is to be the absolute best mobile media platform...

The problem with higher quality videos and photos is that they are larger files and, with many of us dealing with less than stellar network connections, too many uploads were failing. We're sincerely sorry if you were one of the unlucky Pegshot users dealing with this!

We have made as many tweaks as necessary to optimize our media upload processes and-quite honestly-photo uploads are now FLYING! We still have work to do with video, but we wanted to get into touch and acknowledge and accept our challenges. We're on it!

Thanks very much for reading!
